| Architect Tommaso Dingli was
born on 22nd December 1591, in Attard. He studied Mathematics and later
he acquired the skill of architect from Matteo Coglituri. Together with
Giovanni Attard he built the Wignacourt Aqueduct
between 1610 and 1614. He also built Porta Peale and the Bishop's
Palace.
In 1613, when Tommaso was only twenty-two, the Chaplain of that time, Dun Stiefnu Buttigieg, asked him to design a new church for the village of Attard. This was the first church that Dingli designed in his career. Tommaso Dingli continued to build the old church in Birkirkara. He built the church at Naxxar in 1616, the church at Zabbar in 1641, the church at Hal Gharghur in 1638 and the church at Gudja in 1656. Tommaso married Argenta Dingli, from Siggiewi, when he was already in his sixties. They had three boys and three girls. He died on 22nd January 1666. As a sign of respect, he was buried in the church of Attard, below the altar of Our Lady of Sorrows.
